Social Media

“It is important to understand your customer needs; what they expect companies to do through their social media and what benefits they get from the loyalty to the brand. Once you understand this then it’s a case of developing relationships with customers via social and ensure that you ask for feedback throughout.”(Young, 2015)

We live in a world where it is hard to have missed the power Social Media wields, the fame and influence it can bestow, and the damage it can do. We also can’t ignore what an integral part of our lives and social interactions it has become. It’s an essential part of getting work, especially in a digital based industry. Physical sales of games are in decline, while digital sales skyrocket (PlayStation LifeStyle, 2015), so being able to sell yourself on social media is also often an indication of how well you will be able to sell games and ideas online. Building a fanbase online is becoming central to the way many studios manage their marketing.

The use of social media is a tool for you to use to market yourself and your work. It is important to understand the way this is going to work and the time needed to make it work. Participate in discussions with your target audience, learn what is important to them. Be patient. Don't expect to build your version of Rome in a day. These things take time and you need to be in it for the long haul. Quality content is better than a lot of content. It's better to have one person talking about your content and sharing it with their own audiences than 10,000 people viewing your content once and forgetting about it. Build a strong connection with your audience by focusing your content and not being all over the place. Maintain an online presence. The audience will tune out with a prolonged absence. People have very short attention spans. Don't neglect publishing content.

In today's world of connectivity where shares are everything, likes are currency and trending means publicity, social media is the platform to launch your name from. Your digital identity and professional identity are often both the same, and both are available to employers using the power of google. It is important to keep it professional and remember that the internet never forgets, and you never know which eyes are on you.
